“Yemen is the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, with 17 million of its people pushed into acute hunger.”
You’ve probably heard it before. It’s in the headlines, the reels, and countless reports. But here’s the problem—everyone keeps saying it, yet no one is explaining the depths of the struggle, the reasons behind the crisis, or the lives impacted every single day.
That’s why we’re here: to shed light on what’s really happening and why Yemen needs you now more than ever.
Here are 5 shocking facts about Yemen’s hunger crisis you probably didn’t know:
#1: Vital Food Imports Cut Off
Before the war, Yemen imported 70% of its food, including 90% of its wheat and all its rice, tea, and sugar. Conflict at Yemen’s biggest port and economic challenges have disrupted these vital imports.
#2: Funding Cuts Push Millions Into Hunger
Nine million people have had their food assistance halved, leaving 15 major cities to starve. Now, 58% of households struggle with food insecurity, peaking at a historic 60% in southern Yemen.
#3: A Crisis Made Worse by Climate Change
6 million Yemenis are just one step away from famine. This is further worsened by climate change; droughts, water scarcity and rising farming costs are slashing harvests by an estimated 40%.
#4: Half of Yemen May Not Survive This Year
Over 16 million people—half the population—will go hungry this year. This includes five million people facing emergency conditions.
#5: A Child Dies Every 10 Minutes
One child dies every ten minutes in Yemen because of preventable causes such as hunger. That’s 6 children every hour.
So you see, we cannot give up on Yemen…
Especially not with Ramadan looming around the corner.
As we prepare for a month of blessings, how can we ignore those who have nothing?
Will our hearts find peace in Ramadan while millions in Yemen endure it in silence?
When the call to Maghrib fills the air, will their plates still be bare, their hunger unanswered?
If we wait, if we hesitate—how many more will greet Ramadan with empty hands and broken hope?
Here’s what your loose change has the power to do:
🔸 $2 provides a vegetarian iftar meal
🔸 $2.50 provides a chicken iftar meal
🔸 $50 provides 30 iftar meals
Remember, The Prophet ﷺ said,
And it’s not just about feeding the hungry. The rewards for charity in Shaban are beyond measure: every good deed is multiplied 70 times!
[Shaïbān] is the month of performing deeds, the good is multiplied seventy times and the evil is diminished, the sins are forgiven, the good deeds are accepted. (Iqbālof Ibn Tāwūs 684; Wasāil of Hurr al-Āmilī, H. 13952)
Through your early support, we can begin sourcing ingredients, securing supplies, and organizing meal distributions before Ramadan arrives.
This will help us ensure that when the month of fasting begins, families in Yemen already have hot, nourishing meals ready to break their fast.
Thanks to your generosity, last year we provided 1,012,035 Iftar Meals to the people of Yemen—a milestone that led to our recognition as the most active charity in North Yemen by the charity commission in Sanaa.
This year, we’re determined to reach even more deserving families, so that no fasting soul is left without a meal.
Don’t wait! If you delay your donation until Ramadan, we lose precious time—time that could mean the difference between an iftar meal and an empty plate.
