Meet Osman and Omar
On one rather cold night last year, their family lit a wood fire to protect themselves from the cold.
Tragically, the noxious fumes from the fire took their father’s life.
But it did not come as a surprise: he was already suffering from a fatal respiratory condition.
Why then, did they choose to light a deadly fire?
You see…
Without heat from the fire, they would all have died.
But with the fire, only one member would have to suffer.
These aren’t choices families should have to make.
But in a world where 70% Yemenis lack access to basic winter essentials, surviving this harsh weather can be the difference between life and death.
In Yemen, much of the year is dry and hot, which makes the transition to the harsh, freezing winters all the more dangerous.
Did you know that the coldest temperatures in Yemen can plunge below freezing point, and are often accompanied by heavy rains and flooding?
One can imagine what that would mean for 21.6 million people who are already in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
For 17 million Yemenis, plagued by hunger and food insecurity, the mere thought of purchasing warm jackets and blankets is an unattainable goal.
Equally heartbreaking is the realization that 4.5 million displaced Yemenis–who are making do with makeshift tents–have no protection from the biting cold, let alone a winter freeze.
With the coldest weather looming on the horizon, millions of Yemeni families are facing the prospect of not surviving this winter.
For every jacket that should be warming children…
For every mattress the sick are without…
And for every blanket that the frail and elderly so desperately require…
The need for assistance, compassion, and warmth grows more and more urgent.
Our volunteers on the ground–who are all local Yemenis–have thoroughly studied the most pressing needs of families as the harsh winter season approaches. With this in mind, GDC is committed to providing warm jackets, blankets, and mattresses to children and their families.
Last year we were able to provide 2,200 jackets, 500 blankets and 500 mattresses to 1,500 families across 10 areas of Yemen. Through your support, we brought relief to hundreds of children amidst the horrors of winter; potentially saving lives that may not have survived otherwise.
This year, we hope to DOUBLE our impact.
We believe that everyone has something to give, and that every act of generosity counts.
When our Lord honored the people of Yemen in His Book, how can we, His servants, turn our backs on them when they need us most?
A few clicks and a couple of dollars can bring warmth to the freezing population of Yemen.
Amid the preparation for winters, our volunteers are busily distributing supplies to those already suffering under the harsh conditions in the country.
But we don’t have enough financial resources to expand our impact.
That’s where you come in.
For $20, you can provide a child with either a blanket, mattress, or a jacket.
For just $50, you can provide a child with a bundle including ALL three of these things.
And if you’re feeling particularly generous, you can keep increasing that amount and donate winter bundles for an entire VILLAGE.
With your giving spirit at an all-time high during the winter holiday season…
Help us give Yemen a chance to celebrate too..
It’s true: jackets and blankets cannot save those dying from hunger and malnutrition.
But these are still life-saving donations.
This may come as a surprise, but mountainous areas of Yemen see temperatures drop to as low as -8 degrees celsius!
These extreme cold spells, combined with heavy rains that trigger flooding, push the already strained villages of Yemen to the brink of collapse.
In such a bitter cold, exposed skin can freeze in a matter of minutes, leading to medical emergencies such as frostbite, respiratory illnesses and hypothermia.
The only immediate remedy for someone caught in the cold’s grasp is the gift of warmth.
Left untreated, conditions like hypothermia can lead to complete failure of the heart and respiratory system, and eventually result in death.
Given that almost 18 million Yemenis have little to no access to basic healthcare, seeking treatment is out of the question.
It helps understand why around twelve people died in the Hajjah province due to hypothermia last January.
To prevent hypothermia, all vulnerable members of Yemen must be dressed in layers.
So, for the people of Yemen, a blanket is just as important as food–if not more.
We have also had the privilege to open two bakeries that provide over 120,000 people with bread each month and are planning to increase the number of bakeries across Yemen.
With your support, Good Deed Charity was able to serve more than 206,000 Iftar meals during Ramadan, and now you can help us feed them all year round!
Through our FREE public bakeries in Yemen, EVERY Yemeni, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity/race, and religion can access fresh bread.
At our current capacity, we’re already able to provide 8,000 pieces of bread daily through our current locations.
✅ You also give the gift of contentment to yourself.
When you provide warmth to those shivering,
✅ Allah will provide you the warmth you need in the deadliest season of your life.
When you help the Yemenis cover themselves from the freezing downpour,
✅ Allah will cover your sins on the Day of Judgement.
When you gift jackets to Yemeni children,
✅ Allah will gift you the beautiful silk garments of Jannah. SubhanAllah!
Dear brothers and sisters, their CRISIS is your OPPORTUNITY.
Ask yourself: Is this an opportunity you can afford to miss?
Since the outbreak of civil war, the situation in Yemen has gotten worse, with displacement, malnutrition, and multiple disease outbreaks leaving over 70% of the population in need of humanitarian assistance.
Its displacement crisis happens to be the sixth largest internal displacement crisis in the world, with some 4.5 million people internally displaced since 2015. Yemen also has an INFORM Climate Change Risk Index for 2023 of 8.12 , ranking fifth among the most vulnerable countries to climate change and least prepared for climate shocks, with temperatures rising faster than the global average over the past three decades. Financial constraints limit the purchasing capacity of displaced and returnee families, particularly for winterization items. This leaves 4.5 million Yemenis without any means to endure the cold.
To make matters worse, when affordability is present, accessibility becomes a concern. This is because most Yemenis live in rural areas with little to no access to stores, clothing, and blankets, let alone materials to build sustainable fires.
As autumn ushers winter in–with large differences between maximum and minimum temperatures, the vulnerable are already at risk of seasonal flu, necessitating the need to stay safe and warm.
We might not be able to protect Yemen from the conflict, but we can protect them from the cold.
From the cold that will not wait for us; the more that you delay, the longer it will take for us to make necessary purchases and distribute to the deserving.
With each passing moment, the cold presses on, and delaying will only hinder our ability to purchase and deliver crucial supplies to the deserving in time.
Good Deed Charity was co-founded by Dr Mohammed Alazani, father of 6, and a distinguished cardiovascular surgeon in Germany. Dr. Mohammed is originally from Yemen, and he took it upon himself to help the people of his country.
At first alone, then with a group of his medical colleagues. In 2019, he realized he could do much more with a registered charity and local office in Yemen and established Good Deed Charity.
By funding the administrative costs associated with running a charity through his own pockets and with the help of his colleagues, Good Deed Charity has remained a 100% Donation Policy charity, putting 100% of your donations to work on the ground.
Today, Good Deed Charity is one of only 2 charities in Europe that has a registered office in Yemen.
For this reason, we have a dedicated delivery team that knows how to navigate the country in order to facilitate local relief operations in Yemen on behalf of other big charities such as:
We are also registered as a nonprofit organization in the United Kingdom (tax-deductible) exclusively focused on supporting the needy in Yemen.
Having a local office in Yemen allows us to provide our supporters with full transparency through videos and photos highlighting the direct impact of your donations on an on-going basis. At the same time, none of your donations are being redirected towards middlemen to provide any services.
Today, Good Deed Charity is one of only 2 charities in Europe that has a registered office in Yemen.
The distinctive nature of our work is that we have a team on the ground in Yemen which is focused on implementing our projects.
This is notable since it is very difficult & dangerous for outside organizations to otherwise provide relief services.
And to help us deliver your donations even more effectively and efficiently, we are working with a series of partners. And not just any partners – but the best of the best. Our partners have been on the ground in Yemen for several years and understand the problem first-hand.
We have worked with Charity Right, Mercy Bakery, Pious Projects, Crisis Aid, Heroic Hearts, Slough Islamic Trust, and Imdad Relief Foundation to provide life-saving aid to the people in Yemen.

Not a penny wasted.
That’s the Good Deed Charity promise.
