5 Heartbreaking Facts No One Told You About

“Yemen is the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, with 17 million of its people pushed into acute hunger.”

You’ve probably heard it before. It’s in the headlines, the reels, and countless reports. But here’s the problem—everyone keeps saying it, yet no one is explaining the depths of the struggle, the reasons behind the crisis, or the lives impacted every single day.

That’s why we’re here: to shed light on what’s really happening and why Yemen needs you now more than ever.
Here are 5 shocking facts about Yemen’s hunger crisis you probably didn’t know:

#1: Vital Food Imports Cut Off
Before the war, Yemen imported 70% of its food, including 90% of its wheat and all its rice, tea, and sugar. Conflict at Yemen’s biggest port and economic challenges have disrupted these vital imports.

#2: Funding Cuts Push Millions Into Hunger
Nine million people have had their food assistance halved, leaving 15 major cities to starve. Now, 58% of households struggle with food insecurity, peaking at a historic 60% in southern Yemen.

#3: A Crisis Made Worse by Climate Change
6 million Yemenis are just one step away from famine. This is further worsened by climate change; droughts, water scarcity and rising farming costs are slashing harvests by an estimated 40%.

#4: Half of Yemen May Not Survive This Year
Over 16 million people—half the population—will go hungry this year. This includes five million people facing emergency conditions.

#5: A Child Dies Every 10 Minutes
One child dies every ten minutes in Yemen because of preventable causes such as hunger. That’s 6 children every hour.

So you see, we cannot give up on Yemen…

Especially not when the need has never been more urgent.

How can we stand by while millions in Yemen endure hunger and hardship every day?

Will our hearts find peace while others continue to suffer in silence?

When we sit down to a meal, will their plates still be empty, their hunger unanswered?

If we wait, if we hesitate—how many more will continue to endure without the hope they desperately need?

Here’s How You Can Be Part of the Solution

🥖 1. Feed Someone Right Now

Every day, our 4 fully functioning bakeries across Yemen provide 24,000+ pieces of warm, ready-to-eat bread to starving Yemenis.

Thousands of families rely on this bread as their sole source of nourishment. For just ten cents, you can help us ensure that these families do not have to sleep on an empty stomach.

WHY BREAD?

✅ Easy to distribute

✅ Yemeni Bread or Kudam is highly nutritious

Filled with essential staples like rice, lentils, flour, sugar, and oil, these baskets provide enough for a full month of meals, sustaining an entire household.

✅ Support physical and cognitive recovery

✅ Mothers and children regain strength

✅ Restore dignity, hope, and stability in a poverty-stricken home

Give—As Little or As Much as You Can

What matters isn’t how much you give—it’s that you give.
If you give because you care, because you believe, because you want to stand with Yemen, then know this:

Even the smallest gesture, like sharing a single bite of bread with love, will be weighed in your favor.

The reward for feeding the hungry is immense. As the Qur’an tells us:

“We feed you, out of love for Him, to the poor, the orphan, and the captive, [saying] ‘We feed you for Allah’s pleasure alone. We seek no reward, nor thanks from you.” [76:5-12].

About Good Deed Charity

Good Deed Charity was co-founded by Dr Mohammed Alazani, father of 6, and a distinguished cardiovascular surgeon in Germany. Dr. Mohammed is originally from Yemen, and he took it upon himself to help the people of his country.

At first alone, then with a group of his medical colleagues. In 2019, he realized he could do much more with a registered charity and local office in Yemen and established Good Deed Charity.

By funding the administrative costs associated with running a charity through his own pockets and with the help of his colleagues, Good Deed Charity has remained a 100% Donation Policy charity, putting 100% of your donations to work on the ground.

Today, Good Deed Charity is one of only 2 charities in Europe that has a registered office in Yemen.

For this reason, we have a dedicated delivery team that knows how to navigate the country in order to facilitate local relief operations in Yemen on behalf of other big charities such as:

We are also registered as a nonprofit organization in the United Kingdom (tax-deductible) exclusively focused on supporting the needy in Yemen.

Having a local office in Yemen allows us to provide our supporters with full transparency through videos and photos highlighting the direct impact of your donations on an on-going basis. At the same time, none of your donations are being redirected towards middlemen to provide any services.

Our Partners

The problem in Yemen is devastating – and we know that the only way we’ll be able to efficiently and effectively deliver the help they need is through working with a series of partners. And not just any partners – but the best of the best. Our partners have been on the ground in Yemen for several years and understand the problem first-hand.

We have worked with Charity Right, Mercy Bakery, Pious Projects, Crisis Aid, Heroic Hearts, Slough Islamic Trust, and Imdad Relief Foundation to provide life-saving aid to the people in Yemen.
